My Role

My goal is to provide you with the best available defence. If a defence is available I guarantee you that it will be explored aggressively on your behalf. The criminal courts around Toronto and surrounding areas are my home turf. I know the players and the personalities involved. Being charged with a criminal offence can be a frightening and devastating experience for most people. My role is to guide you through the process and give you sound legal, tactical and practical advice.

A lawyer can make an enormous impact on the outcome of a trial. In a case where the evidence is weak against the accused, an inexperienced lawyer not used to criminal trial work can miss crucial issues and opportunities for victory and turn an otherwise strong case into a disaster for the accused. I can guarantee you that is never going to happen to any of my clients.

In a strong case for the Prosecution, a good lawyer, who does his investigation and preparation properly, and has the right experience, can find the weaknesses in the evidence and testimony of key prosecution witnesses. It is the skilled lawyer that can extract the smallest fact or otherwise missed piece of evidence and turn it into a major issue of credibility and reasonable doubt. If there is a way to attack the evidence against you, I guarantee you that I will find it.

CROSS EXAMINATION is a major tool of the trial lawyer. It is the great equalizer of the truth. A good cross-examination will bring out and test the truth of the testifying witness, even when it seems like the testimony cannot be challenged.
While there are no two examples of cross examination which are alike, most good crosses share in the common denominator of being both persuasive and controlling. A good cross examination can bring out the “other side” of the story to show why a certain government witness should not be believed. This may be done by skillfully exploring the motivation behind their testimony, opportunity to observe, and other factors that attack the credibility of witnesses. This is what I do best.
